Niger governor congratulates Sen. Isah Mohammed at 71

Niger State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani-Bello has congratulated frontline politician and former Senator of the Federal Republic, Waziri Nupe, Senator Isah Mohammed on his 71st birthday.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Malam Jibrin Baba Ndace, the Governor described the former Senator as an ace politician who has greatly contributed to the sociopolitical development of the country in general and the state in particular.

Sani-Bello praised Mohammed as he turns 71, describing the occasion as a special and significant milestone.

Barricade prevents tourists from first government house

The Curator of Calabar Museum, Mrs Evelyn Osuagwu, says barricade by the Cross River government at the entrance of the museum has reduced traffic of tourists.

Osuagwu told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Calabar, that the museum is situated close to the state Deputy Governor’s official residence and the state government lodge in Calabar.

The armed security as well as the barricade in the area has restricted the normal flow of tourists to the historic site.

Nigerian female authors make literature prize list

Three Nigerian female authors, Oyinkan Braithwaite, Akwaeke Emezi and Diana Evans have been nominated for the 2019 Women’s Prize for Fiction.

The Women’s Prize for Fiction, previously known as the Orange Prize for Fiction and the Baileys Women’s Prize For Fiction, is one of the most prestigious literature awards in the world.

Braithwaite was nominated for her book ‘My Sister, The Serial Killer’, Emezi for ‘Freshwater’ and Evans for ‘Ordinary People’.

Mohammed Bashir Abdulazeez becomes Mai Anguwa in Suleja

The Emir of Suleja, Malam Muhammad Awwal Ibrahim, has approved the appointment of Alhaji Mohammed Bashir Abdulazeez as the Mai Anguwa of Sauka ka Huta 11 in Kwamba, Suleja Local Government of Niger State.

The approval was conveyed by the Emir through the Hakimi of Kwamba. The official turbaning was done by the Dakaci of Kwamba, Alhaji Bala Auta at an occasion attended by the new tittle holder's family, friends and well wishers.

Court holds R. Kelly on $1m bond over sexual assault

Grammy-winning singer R. Kelly, who has faced years of sexual abuse allegations, was held on a one million dollar bond on charges that he sexually assaulted three teenagers and a woman, as prosecutors offered new details in the case.

In Cook County court, prosecutor Jennifer Gonzalez said on Saturday that Kelly met one of the teenage victims during his trial on child pornography charges in 2008 when she sought his autograph after a day in court and repeatedly had sex with her between 2009 and 2010.

Kelly was acquitted of the child porn charges.

My mother told me to poison my father-- 10-year old boy says

A 10-year-old boy on Monday told a Mapo Customary Court in Ibadan that his mother asked him to put poison in his father’s food and bathing water.

Adenike Ayodele, the mother of the boy, had petitioned the court to dissolve her 15-year-old marriage to her estranged husband, Adeshina, on grounds of irresponsibility and battery.

In his testimony, the boy told the court that his mother gave him a nylon which contained some powdery substance which she instructed him to pour in his father’s food as well as his bathing water.

Portuguese football icon Cristiano Ronaldo has accepted a prearranged €18.8 million fine and a suspended 23-month jail term for tax fraud in Spain on Tuesday. The charges relate to his time at former club Real Madrid.

Juventus winger Ronaldo arrived at the Madrid court hand in hand with Georgina Rodriguez and dressed in an all-black outfit finished off neatly with white trainers and shades and gave a thumbs up and grin to the assembled reporters outside.

French police arrests R&B singer, Chris Brown

R&B singer, Chris Brown, has been arrested in Paris following a rape accusation by a 24-year-old woman.

French officials said Brown and two others were currently in custody after a woman filed a rape allegation in northwest Paris after meeting her in a nightclub, Fox 5 news reported.

The arrests were first reported by French tabloid Closer, which said the three were arrested after the woman alleged she was raped at Brown’s hotel suite on the night of January 15.
