Gov. Bello of Niger pledges to fight banditry, kidnapping in Rafi LG

Gov. Abubakar Bello of Niger on Thursday promised to tackle incessant armed banditry and kidnapping along Kagara–Pandogari-Kaduna Road in Rafi Local Government Area of the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that activities of armed bandits and kidnappers on the road had forced motorists and drivers of articulated vehicles to abandon the route for Minna-Suleja Road.

Bello made the promise while on campaign rally to the Emir of Kagara, Alhaji Salihu Tanko at his palace.

He said that government has put up various measures to checkmate the menace facing the area and make the route safe for the populace.

‘‘We are here to seek your support for the forthcoming general elections; your maximum support will contribute to the victory of our party during the elections.

‘‘We are aware of the issue of insecurity facing the area, the issue of activities of armed bandits and kidnappers.

‘‘We are trying our best to ensure that the area become safe again for our people to move freely without being kidnapped or attacked,’’ he said.

Addressing a mammoth crowd of supporters at the Kagara Township Stadium, the governor called on the people to vote for APC candidates vying for various positions across the state.

He appealed to the people to be peaceful during the elections and exercise their franchise in a peaceful manner.

Responding, the emir gave the assurance that his people would vote for all APC’s candidates during the elections.

He warned those without voter cards to stay away from polling centres and allow eligible voters exercise their rights peacefully.
